Patient Info

New to CDMS? Here's what to expect from referral to recovery, what to bring, and how billing works.

What to expect

  1. 1

    Referral & intake

Most patients arrive with a referral and, for Mohs surgery, a biopsy-confirmed diagnosis. Our intake team will collect your insurance information and medical history before your first visit.

  2. 2

    Consultation

Your surgeon or pain specialist reviews your diagnosis or imaging, explains your options, and answers questions before anything is scheduled.

  3. 3

    Day of your procedure

Plan to spend several hours with us, particularly for Mohs surgery, where waiting for margins to be read is part of the process. Arrange for a ride home if you're receiving sedation.

  4. 4

    Recovery & follow-up

You'll leave with written wound care or recovery instructions and a follow-up appointment if one is needed.

What to bring

Documentation

Photo ID, insurance card, your referral, and any pathology reports or imaging related to your visit.

Medication list

A current list of medications and supplements, including dosages — some may need to be paused before your procedure.

A ride home

If your procedure involves sedation, you'll need someone to drive you home afterward.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral?
Most patients arrive with a referral from their dermatologist or physician. If you haven't been evaluated yet, we can also see you directly for a consultation.
Will I be awake during my procedure?
Most procedures, including Mohs surgery, are performed under local anesthesia, so you're awake and comfortable throughout. Some plastic surgery and pain procedures use minimal sedation.
How long does a Mohs procedure take?
Plan to spend several hours on-site. Because margins are read in our own lab rather than sent out, most cases still finish in a single visit.
Can someone come with me?
Yes — a family member or friend is welcome to wait with you, though typically only the patient is permitted in the procedure room itself.
What insurance do you accept?
See our insurance & billing section above, or contact us directly with your plan details.
